WebMetabolic myopathies are a diverse group of rare genetic disorders and their associated muscle symptoms may be subtle. Patients may present with indolent myopathic features, exercise intolerance or recurrent rhabdomyolysis. WebMetabolic myopathies are a set of rare disorders that disrupt energy metabolism. Skeletal muscle is involved primarily because of its high energy demand, but multisystem dysfunction can occur. In this review, disorders affecting glycogen and lipid metabolism as well as mitochondrial disorders will be discussed.
